John Wiest

As a two-time national duets champion and current national solo champion, John Wiest holds the distinction of being the most accomplished KWC Canada competitor at the national level.  He has competed on the world stage in both Finland and Norway, and at the 2022 World Finals in Nes, he and duets partner Mike Smoroden earned themselves a coveted place on the international podium, winning a silver medal in duets.  

A mathematics lecturer by day, John also has three kids and a very supportive fiancé, and he is overjoyed that she made the trip to Norway with him.

Longtime friends hailing from Calgary, AB, John Wiest & Mike Smoroden are KWC veterans in the truest sense of the word.  Holding the distinction of being KWC Canada's first two-time duets champions, these affable oddities have competed twice on the world stage, and all of their hard work and dedication paid off in a big way when they were awarded the silver medal at the 2022 World Finals in Nes, Norway.
